Sharing Public Land During Hunting Season

Indiana's fish and wildlife areas, state forests and much of the Hoosier National Forest are open to hunting. Trails stay open too, and the two uses coexist fine with a little planning.

Wear blaze orange during firearms deer season, keep dogs leashed and visible, and stick to marked trails. Check the DNR's season dates before you go; the busiest windows are the November firearms season and spring turkey season.

State parks and dedicated nature preserves generally do not allow public hunting, so they are a good default if you would rather avoid the question entirely.
